Eat Taste and Grow Launch

June 2011 | In News + Education

Combined Media have developed an interactive teaching resource for Safefood and the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland. ‘Eat Taste and Grow’ aims to increase awareness among primary school children in Northern Ireland of the origins of their food and local produce, and the role this plays in healthy eating.

The story and importance of healthy eating, being active, and the process of food being produced is brought to life by the personable characters of Flick, Jo, Jay and Mac. This interactive CD-Rom teaches at three levels; foundation, Key stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Each level has two main sections- ‘How Food is Produced’ and ‘Healthy Eating and Being Active’.

The CD-Rom incorporates Teacher's Notes pdf’s, fun animated video explanations of core concepts, a CD optimised for use on whiteboard, posters and homework worksheets. There are also interactive games’ including ‘Trolley Stuffer Game’ where the aim is to do the weekly shopping for a balanced diet and the ‘Lunchbox Game’, which gets the user to substitute items in the lunchbox by choosing healthy alternatives.
